Gloria Mata is a Houston-based painter who creates floral based works. Originally from Cuba, Mata earned an Associate's degree in Commercial Art from Houston Community College. Post-graduation she worked for Gordon Jewelers developing marketing ads.
In 1985, Gloria decided to take a hiatus from her artwork, wanting instead to dedicate time to family. By 2003 she was back experimenting with watercolor, acrylic, and oil paint—finding her niche in oil.
Her love of nature and flowers is her inspiration. She enjoys recreating the beauty found in the natural world around us. Much of her work features gracefully painted close-up details of flowers and buds. Currently, she is a part of the Hardy & Nance Studios resident artist family. Her work has been shown in a number of galleries throughout Houston, TX including Archway Gallery and the Art Machine Gallery.
